While vacationing the end of May I had an unfortunate fall & broke a couple ribs. Everyone was very kind & helpful. An MD started my IV & drew blood. They were very thorough in my work up and left no stone unturned. Being a nurse myself; I was prepared to be very proactive to advocate for myself but there was no need. All my records were copied & given to me to bring home for my PCP. I received pain med & was treated with respect & concern.

Gracias

What amazing services. We went to the vaccine clinic at it was quick and simple, even though we were visiting the Bahamas. Cost? Free. Then we went to the 4pm clinic to get a doctor's note. There was a wait of about 90 minutes as the Dr was still doing his rounds. But this was a fraction of what it would have taken in a Canadian hospital. Total cost for appointment and note, $35. Very happy with the people, service, cost, and time. Walking distance to the downtown bus stop.

We were on a cruise and my husband got sick 10/17. The ships doctor sent us to Rand where it smelled like urine when you went in, every Dr & nurse had on a surgical mask...I can only assume because of the smell. Hubby needed a CT but we were told the machine was not working. So we had to settle for an ultrasound. Then they wanted Xrays, mind you he just had 3 taken on the ship ( @ $125 each). So the Port Agent took me back to the ship to get a copy, the only way I could get a copy was to take a photo of the image on the ships PC and go back to the ER and show the Dr my phone . Now they are standing there in front of me looking up what a perforated intestine looks like on their cell phones.
This was the most HORRIBLE ,disgusting ,smelling and unorganized place I have ever been into. When the nurse came around to give my hubby an injection, the only way she verified who you were was simply asking your name. Later we found out we had a choice of going to a Private Facility over a Public Facility.
Bottom Line......Lesson Learned.

Had to go in at 11pm on Wednesday night w uti. Didn't get out until 2. Busy with a major stabbing/fight walking in with a several people dripping blood right through lobby. All serious injuries get top priority. Nurses and Dr were very competent and friendly when I got in, it just took alot of waiting. Cost nearly 280.00 and I was glad for the help.

This is the only hospital on the island but it's horrific. Most of the doctors are completely incompetent and the service and conditions is poor the equipment is old and out of date. Lord have mercy, they almost killed my mom giving her the wrong Medication, only thing they had to offer for that was an apology. Dr Cooper (female) is responsible for that. And I pray God have mercy on her soul. And all the other Doctors in there who let people family members because they don't know their ass from their elbow.

It's better if you can afford to go to a private facility because they will have you waiting for hours before any doctor sees you..you can come in the afternoon and still not leave until 2 to 3 o clock in the morning...it is never a good experience ..
But some of the workers are very nice and helpful and some of the security offices as well.

I got admitted because my iron was low .. my heboglobin .. for a male it suppose to be between 12 and 15 .. danger levels is 6 and below. I was refered to by dr rolle from sunrise medical and i went to see a private doctor 1st and after he did the blood work he found out my iron was too low and sent me straight to the rand. I didnt want to come cause i heard all kinds of bad stories but i had to register then like 20mins they call me to measure my blood pressure .. then went back and sat down then they check my heart put some stuff on my chest .. then wait 2hrs which wasnt bad cause you sitting in air-condition and have a big screen tv .. so after that .. i had to see some chinese doctors .. they cool but they experts you could see they know what they doing i had to get my blood work done .. they draw blood .. blah blah .. i had to stay in over night though .. now my experience .. the beds look uncomfortable but they pretty comfortable .. i was shocked. I slept well. The air condition was pipen too so that was nice. Just make sure if you staying in .. get family members to bring you stocks for ur feet.. 1 gallon water .. and a thick cover and a pillow .. While I was there they put me on drops as i was dehydrated and give me oxygen through my nose while i slept .. they had two nurse sit there through the night early morning .. watching you and 5 others in beds in the same room. The nurses every 3 to 5 hrs measure your pressure .. Some negatives .. if you want to pee you cant go to the rest room .. you have to pee in a long cup .. so just tell the nurse nicely if she can give you privacy and she will close the curtains for you. Also the food was good just too little .. Get family members to bring you wendys or subway for you or you will be left hungry. They dont give seconds.lol. If u want to do number 2 .. kindly tell the nurse and a male guy will come and you sit in a wheelchair and he will push you to the restroom. Now the male tiolets during the day not so clean but in the morning they are cuz the janitors just clean them but what i did which was good waz put brown paper over the seat and sat on it ..that worked well. Other than that everyone was helpful .. the nurses helpful ..willing to assist... as a male i wore the same clothes..didnt brush my teeth and didnt bathe .. imma male didnt smell too bad. I say I will thug it out for 3 days. I like how professional they are too .. i had an assigned nurse and she dealt with my situation and asked me questions .. then the next day .. the nurse assigned to me got like 7 doctors a nurses talking about my situation for about 40minutes in front of me .. discussing what is best and hearing each others opinions on what tests i should do or not do. I felt special .. they took time trying to get my sorted out .. i liked that... And from there i was amazed at the machines they had in the rand .. thyroid machines .. CT machines .. Xray machines .. all these big sophisticated stuff. It blew me away. The rand looks small outside but this place is huge and thet work in coordination even though different sections and that impressed me too. Other than that it was great ... the women are pretty too. I saw one fine chinese woman and 2 of the nurses caught my attention .. so waz alwayz happy to see them walk in the room. The security is great too .. i saw policemen walking up and down the rand and the security men stayed poping up in the rooms so that was good .. they made their presence known .. I felt safe. After 3 days the team of doctors made their last rounds and said i could leave. Honestly i waz enjoying myself .. but really hungry and needed more water so i enjoyed myself at the rand motel i call it .. free food..water..free air condition .. free bed .. the best hotel on the island.
